Corio joins CoVE initiative for boosting offshore wind skills in Ireland

We are pleased to announce that Corio has joined the Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) for Offshore Wind Energy in Ireland initiative, which was launched at the Wind Energy Ireland Trade Show in Dublin on 6 November.

The CoVE initiative, part of the wider European T-shore Centres of Vocational Excellence programme, is supported by representatives from industry, education and training and is focused on building Ireland’s offshore wind workforce.

Growing Ireland’s expertise in offshore wind will be key to helping the country meet its ambitious clean energy targets that include the delivery of 5 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.

The goals of the CoVE initiative include:

• co-creation of a skills ecosystem in Ireland

• strengthening industry/educational linkages

• collaborating on research and innovation projects

• developing a European network of CoVEs

• sharing of infrastructure & resources

• harmonising sector communication & support

• enhancing the sustainability of the Irish CoVE

• advocating for the offshore wind energy sector.

We look forward to being actively involved in progressing these CoVE commitments over the coming years.

Corio Generation is developing the 450 MW Sceirde Rocks Windfarm, approximately 5km off the coast of Connemara, County Galway, in western Ireland.

Once completed, the Sceirde Rocks Windfarm will be one of the largest infrastructure developments undertaken in Connemara. It is expected to provide enough clean electricity to meet the needs of around 350,000 Irish homes and help to avoid around 550,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
