Portugal has a national target to allocate 10 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, with 2 GW operational by the same date.
All of this will be built using state-of-the-art floating wind technology which is well suited to the deep waters of the Iberian Peninsula.
In May 2023, global offshore wind developer Corio Generation announced a partnership with leading Portuguese renewable energy developer Hyperion Renewables to explore opportunities to build offshore wind projects off the coast of Portugal.
The partnership combines Corio’s market leading expertise in auction preparation and site selection with Hyperion’s wealth of experience in stakeholder engagement and deep knowledge of the country’s regulatory landscape.
