Spotlight on South Korea: Inspiring schoolchildren

Our team in Seoul, in South Korea, recently had the privilege of visiting Paekyang Middle School in Busan for an educational discussion on offshore wind energy.
With the enthusiastic participation of 80 students, the session began with an overview of renewable energy generation, followed by a challenge to build some miniature wind turbines and witnessing the remarkable conversion of wind energy into electricity.
Corio Generation is developing 3.2 GW of offshore wind projects in South Korea across two portfolios: the BadaEnergy portfolio and the Busan portfolio.
The country was one of the first in Asia-Pacific to adopt a national target to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
BadaEnergy
The BadaEnergy portfolio, a joint venture of Corio, Total Energies and SK Ecoplant plans to develop more than 2.6 GW of floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind farms off the coast of Ulsan and South Jeolla province.
This comprises the Gray Whale, Maenggoldo and Geomundo projects. The 1.5 GW Gray Whale project is expected to become one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind developments. Visit the BadaEnergy website
Busan
The Busan portfolio will address a market in Busan Metropolitan City with heavy electricity consumption and strong grid capacity. Corio is in discussion with local companies and supply chains to maximise localisation for this fixed-bottom portfolio of projects.
